Waiting & Bar Staff

Job type: Full and part-time opportunities with live-in accommodation

The ideal candidates will have a minimum of 2 years of fine dining and event experience and will possess the following qualities:

In addition to a competitive salary starting from £12 per hour, we offer a meal provided while on duty and a 20% discount on food for family members at our hotel restaurant.
As a country house hotel, our location is outside of public transport routes, so owning your own transport is essential.

Waitress/ Waiter Job Purpose

You will be required to meet and greet customers and offer restaurant menus, answers questions about menu offerings, process food and drink orders, carry food and drinks from the kitchen to tables and prepare bills and process payments.

Waitress/ Waiter Job Duties

  • Welcome customers when they arrive at the hotel, restaurant
  • Introduce customers to the menu and outline daily or seasonal menu specials
  • Answer questions about menu items, ingredients, food allergens and pricing
  • Take customers’ orders for food and drink by writing them on an order notepad
  • Pass customer orders to kitchen staff for preparation
  • Prepare drinks and serve them to customers
  • Collect food orders from the kitchen, verify that they are correct, and serve them to customers
  • Ensure that customers are satisfied with their meals, and processes orders for additional courses if necessary
  • Remove used dishes, glasses, and flatware from tables
  • Prepare the bill and processes cash and credit card payments and returns change to customers as required
  • Set tables with dishes, glasses, and flatware in preparation for the next customers
  • Maintain familiarity with menu items, specials, and restaurant information
  • Meet with General Manager and waiter staff regularly, in order to learn about menu changes and specials as well as discuss upcoming reservations and customers with special needs/dietary requirements

Previous experience in undertaking these duties in a hotel/restaurant environment is essential.

No formal education required, attention to detail, ability to multitask and work under pressure, written and verbal communication, customer service and interpersonal skills, team player, familiarity with alcohol restrictions/laws.

Works alongside Head Chef, the Sous Chef will help to manage daily kitchen activities, including overseeing staff, aiding with menu preparation, ensuring food quality and freshness, and monitoring ordering and stocking. Provide excellent food quality and consistency by following designated recipes.

  • Leads kitchen team in chef’s absence
  • Ensures that the kitchen team maintain high food hygiene standards including allergen awareness
  • Provides guidance to junior kitchen team members, including, but not limited, to line cooking, food preparation, and dish plating
  • Oversees and organizes kitchen stock and ingredients
  • Ensures a first-in, first-out food rotation system and verifies all food products are properly dated and organized for quality assurance
  • Keeps cooking stations stocked, especially before and during prime operation hours
  • Hires and trains new kitchen employees to restaurant and kitchen standards
  • Manages food and product ordering by keeping detailed records, ensures minimal waste, plus works with existing systems to improve waste reduction and manage budgetary concerns
  • Supervises all food preparation and presentation to ensure highest quality and restaurant standards

As Pastry Chef you will work with the existing ‘Pastry Team’ responsible for every aspect of baking and food preparation, which includes:

  • Stocking checking and ordering of ingredients
  • Weighing and measuring ingredients
  • Decorating pastries and all other desserts using a variety of different sauces, toppings and other decoration items
  • Contributing new ideas to the menu
  • Keeping accurate food and temperature records
  • Operating a variety of commercial kitchen equipment
  • Maintaining a clean and professional, hygienic work environment

Pastry Chef skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • Proven skill in baking, pastry preparation and decoration, with experience of working as a Pastry Chef in a commercial kitchen
  • Extensive knowledge of health and safety and food safety procedures for kitchens and food preparation areas
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Exceptional time management skills
  • Ability to work autonomously, but also with a team
